Check out this timeline to learn what it will take for your community to meet 90% of its energy needs through efficiency and renewables by 2050, as well as where your community's energy use currently stands (Baseline Year).
This data is based on best available information. Vermont's energy mix is rapidly changing and consistent tracking of this complex information is being refined in collaboration with our utilities. The progress timelines will be updated annually as official data becomes available.
These graphs rely on the best available official data sources, including: i) Efficiency Vermont, for electricity data; ii) US Energy information Agency (EIA) for energy use across sectors and fuel types; iii) Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTRANS) for VMT and average fuel economies; and iv) US Census for population and other demographic information.
The Dashboard provides directionally correct projections based on best available information. To estimate the 90% by 2050 projections, it draws on energy scenario work contained in Vermont's 2016 Comprehensive Energy Plan, modeling by VEIC using the Long-Range Energy Assessment Planning (LEAP) tool, and EAN's 2050 Energy Pathways analysis. Note that these statistics are pre-Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) and do not reflect RECs transferred to a utility or sold out of state. As this information is made public, it will be included.
