Net Zero Montpelier: Goals and Roadmap
The Montpelier Energy Advisory Committee (MEAC) was founded in 2010 to act in an advisory capacity to the Montpelier City Council on energy issues. Specifically, it was charged with identifying and nurturing potential energy saving projects and opportunities; informing and engaging city residents on energy issues with a special focus on building weatherization; and partnering with other statewide groups such and the Energy Action Network (EAN) and Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) to foster long term, far reaching projects, goals and developments that will ultimately serve to either reduce Montpelier’s energy use or actively meet its energy needs from renewables. In February 2014, MEAC recommended, and the city council adopted, a citywide goal of “Net Zero Montpelier.”
Net Zero Montpelier Roadmap
In 2014, MEAC defined a “Roadmap” to lay out a path for Montpelier to reach the 2030 Net Zero goal. This document is updated annually to reflect the action to date on each goal and adjust goals as needed. In the summer of 2015, MEAC conducted a series of strategic planning sessions to help prioritize activities for 2016. Download the file above to read more about the roadmap.
