Montpelier Energy Demand and GHG Emissions (2011-2016)
In order to track progress towards Montpelier’s official goal of becoming a “Net Zero” energy community by 2030, MEAC undertook a series of analyses to illustrate the trends (FY 2011-2016) in energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions of Montpelier's municipal operations and facilities.

This graph illustrates the downward trend in energy demand of Montpelier's municipal facilities across three energy sectors: Transportation, Heat and Electricity.
Montpelier Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trends (FY 2011-2016)
This graph illustrates the trends in GHG emissions in Montpelier Municipal facilities from 2011 to 2016. Note the downward trends across all sectors - Thermal, Transportation and Electricity - with particular emphasis on sharp reduction in GHGs related to thermal energy thanks to the transition to district biomass heat. The reductions in "fugitive emissions" (leaks) are related to improvements in the city's wastewater treatment digester.
Montpelier's "Net Zero Factor" (2011-2016)
This slide illustrates the progress that Montpelier municipal facilities have made towards the goal of Net Zero since 2011, as defined by the portion of the city's energy demand that is met by renewables and offsets. It also indicates the what will be needed to achieve the net zero goal by 2030.
