Folks in Norwich celebrated their new electric vehicle charging station in the parking lot of Dan & Whit's General Store in Norwich.

The station was funded by a grant from the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development that targeted "designated village centers." The town match was completed through contributions from Norwich Technologies and Solaflect Energy, two Norwich-based solar companies. The station is networked with ChargePoint, the biggest EV charging network in the US, and can charge two vehicles at a time.

The electricity used by the station is offset by the production from the 2.5-kW solar awning on the south wall of the General Store. The solar equipment, design work, and installation were donated by Norwich Technologies. Dan & Whit's generously provided space for the solar awning, the charging station and its parking spaces.

The celebration included a “show and tell” and test rides with local EV owners of Chevy Volt, Ford C Max, Mitsubishi MiEV, Nissan Leaf, and Tesla.
