King Arthur Flour understands the importance of the baker’s experience, and this has led to incredible growth for the employee-owned company. By 2009, they made the decision to expand their facilities and used the opportunity to update and combine their store and baking education center. The goal was to provide their customers with “the ultimate baking experience.” In keeping with their strong commitment to the environment, they also wanted to hold true to their sustainability principles. Having partnered with Efficiency Vermont on smaller projects over the years, King Arthur Flour invited us to be part of the project team for the $10 million expansion.
Efficiency Vermont began by looking at King Arthur Flour’s budget requirements. We reviewed designs and provided energy efficient recommendations that involved a whole -building approach, with an eye toward their long term goals and business objectives.
With Efficiency Vermont acting as energy advisor, King Arthur Flour has an updated building they can truly be proud of—from their mission to their bottom line. They doubled the baking education center and commercial baking space, increased retail space by 150%, and they’re now saving $27,000 each year compared to a facility built to code.
